Washington Policy Center Luncheon Date: Wednesday, February 1st, 2012 Time: 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm Place: The Westin Seattle 1900 5th Avenue Washington Policy Center welcomes Paul Pastorek, former Louisiana State Superintendent of Education, to our 2012 Education Lunch at noon on February 1st at The Westin Seattle. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Mr. Pastorek successfully reorganized New Orleans' schools into a high-performing system of charter and independent schools, creating an environment of freedom and competition which allows school principals and teachers to deliver excellent instruction to New Orleans' children. More than 240 people attended our 2011 education event, including parents, teachers' union leaders, educators, policymakers and community members. Our past events have welcomed Dr. Andres Alonso, Baltimore Schools CEO; Rob Stein, an Innovation Schools leader and principal of Denver's Manual High School; and Professor William Ouchi, expert in organizational design and public school finance at UCLA's Anderson School of Management. What types of criminal activity are we seeing in the last year and how is the Sheriff’s Office prioritizing our efforts. With such high unemployment and nerves frayed, are we seeing an increase in violence? Please join us as we welcome six term Sheriff Lucas as he presents an overview of what’s happening with law enforcement in our area. Please bring your questions for the Sheriff and learn how citizens can volunteer to make a difference in the community. We look forward to your attendance at this informative and enlightening discussion. Sheriff Lucas is a lifelong resident of Clark County and is very active in our community. He is a Rotary member and serves on many boards and commissions. Having graduated from the FBI Academy as well as the National Sheriff’s Institute, Sheriff Lucas is the current Chairman of the Washington State Region 4 Homeland Security Council.
