World Renowned Hector Garcia Performs for Veterans Corporate sponsors include Columbia Credit Union, Ryonet – Screen printing and supplies, Couv.com, US Digital and East Vancouver Costco. On behalf of the Clark County Veterans Therapeutic Court the Living Hope Campus, located at 2711 NE Andresen Rd. Vancouver, WA 98661, (360) 944-3905 will be hosting a fundraiser to benefit veterans in Southwest Washington. Monday, May 21, 2012 the doors will open at 5:30 pm with Attorney Art Miller playing the piano. The $20 admission will include snacks, beverages, and a gourmet dessert bar with an evening of world class entertainment. The headliner will be the world renowned classical guitarist Hector Garcia who will be accompanied by his former pupil internationally acclaimed classical guitarist Ernesto Quilban. Cuban born Hector Garcia is thought by many to be the best classical guitar player in the world. He has performed with major symphonies throughout the world. His history includes spending 2 years of imprisonment after the ill-fated Bay of Pigs. In 1963 he was released after the Kennedy Administration paid a $50,000 ransom to Fidel Castro. During his imprisonment he convinced his captures to give him a guitar and he practiced continuously and his playing provided hope and inspiration to other prisoners. After his release from prison he appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show and played some of is inspirational songs. Later at the University of Albuquerque, New Mexico he created the first guitar department in the United States. Ernesto Quilban started his musical career at age 5. At the age of 17 he won a nationwide talent search in his native country of the Philippines. His talent has reached far and wide performing at the White house and for foreign dignitaries. Opening for these gentlemen will be Ashton Rogers, a 14 year old pop sensation. Ashton began her singing career at age 5. She has sung the National Anthem at the Jeld-Wen Stadium in Portland and was a featured performer at the Jim Fisher Christmas Concert. She most recently performed for several of the Clark County Veterans Court concerts. Also appearing is National Fiddler Champion Cynthia Hamm. Cynthia started playing the fiddle at age 9. She was an award winning fiddler by age 13. She has opened for and played with such legendary Country greats such as Little Jimmy Dickens, Dan Seals, and the Forester Sisters. There will also be special appearances by Col. Dan Kern, Country sensation Ricky Lee Jackson, Tamara Knight, and Don Mitchel & Judy Koch Smith of Three Together. The Clark County Veterans Therapeutic Court is one of a few Veterans Courts in the United States, started under the leadership of Judge Darvin Zimmerman. The court is a means to successfully rehabilitating veterans by diverting them from the traditional criminal justice system; providing them with the tools they need to lead a productive law-abiding life through treatment, rehabilitation and judicial monitoring. The Clark County Veterans Court has become a model court for other jurisdictions to view towards creating their own. Recent visitors included teams from Marion and Multnomah counties.
